Dust 514

Dust 514 is a rather familiar type of game, but it adds a whole new dimension onto the typical tactical game.

Though it’s very much like Halo, being set in space, in the future, with super overpowered weapons in comparison to modern technology, it will be new grounds for many players. Not only can you have your own character and profile in the realm of dust, but your battles effect the control of territories in the realm of EVE as well. This gives the game a new aspect, as the people in EVE can also give players of dust contracts (or things much like them) to re-take territories, or liberate new territories.

Dust 514 is not officially released yet, however, there is an open beta, that can be found somewhere relative to here.

I will post a review of Dust 514 when I have played the game. Lets hope I can procure it sometime tomorrow!

Game Stick – Somewhat Portable Console

gamestick-prototypeWhile waiting for my Ouya to arrive, I recently heard about a new Kickstarter product called  GameStick.    This thing is a controller, that looks like a virtual console controller, and holds a dongle that plugs into your HDTV’s HDMI port.   It lists for $79 and is now available for pre-order on the website.  The Kickstarter has been fully funded, so hopefully, this thing will aactually be produced and go out the door for retail sales soon.  Heck, It may even be available before my Ouya gets here.

While I couldn’t give a crap about the social gaming aspect of bragging to your contacts on Facebook about games, this little thing intrigues me with it’s small form factor and portability.   Android based like the Ouya, it may not have a Quad -Core Tegra 3, but could deliver a decent gaming experience for a little more cost than a single, traditional console game.

Batman: Arkham Origins

I realized that I was severely lacking content in this  area, and needed to broaden my horizons. So, I am delving into a genre of games I don’t usually tangle with by looking into Batman: Arkham Origins. This is next in line in the Batman: Arkham series, and I hope it will have some great reviews as I’m a Batman fan myself. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been able to Gather on it so far.

Batman: Arkham Origins is supposed to release on October 25th this year, but no mention has been made about it releasing for next-gen consoles.

“The game will not be developed by Rocksteady Studios this time around, instead being worked on in-house at Warner Bros. Games Montreal.”. The new development team will be using their on customized unreal engine, and Eric Holmes lead designer of games including The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Prototype, is head of the project.

As I’m not a very hardcore mobile gamer, and I’m on my Kindle Fire when I do game, this will be a more community supplied area. But, just to start us off, here are some games I like for android:

1. Order& Chaos

2. Bad Piggies

3. Cartoon wars

Bundles and Bundles

BannerSmallYou like FREE games?  Of course you do.  Would you be willing to pay a pittance for some of the good ones?  You should.    You can even direct the proceeds of game bundle purchases to charity.  Personally, I direct my purchase price directly to developers when I buy Indie Game Bundles and give to charities separately.  But, hey, it’s your choice.  You can even get some games for just a penny, a dollar, or even for FREE.  These aren’t pong remakes either – many of them are high quality, full release PC games.  Many work on Linux, Mac, Android, and even Steam!

Indie Game Bundles site keeps you up to date on all the major bundles that are currently active. This all started with the Humble Bundle, but has now blossomed into a giant marketing sea of chaos.  With so many of them out there,  I used to try to find bundles via Google.  But the IGB site puts them all in one convenient location.  This discount/charity based marketing is so important, and so valuable, I think it deserves it’s own RSS widget on this site with all the other game site news feeds.  Don’t you?  You should.

Terraria!

Terraria will soon be released for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360!(Now if only they could make a mac!) I personally can;t wait for this release, as I am a huge Terraria fan, and have dumped A LOT of hours into the game. I just love the creative aspects of the game, and the build mechanics. you can build VERY tall structures, with virtually no limit, while defending yourself from  monsters at the same time. All in all, I haven’t been able to come across a better game of it’s kind.

Xbox release date: 3/27/13

PS3 release date: 3/26/13
